ACEOs : A Quiet And Enjoyable Hobby

Monday, January 8th, 2007

If you are looking for a new hobby, you might want to consider collecting ACEOs.

ACEOs (Art Cards Editions & Originals) are 2.5 inches by 3.5 inches cards, the same size as a standard playing card, that have small works of art on them. Their compact size makes ACEOs easy to store in a folder, or box, or displayed in specialized ACEO frames.

What makes these little gems special is that they are often original works of art at affordable prices by up and coming artists.

Collectors search ACEOs by different criteria. Some collect by the artist who created them. Those type of collectors generally want original works. Some collect by the theme or genre of the art, and find editions are often most affordable. Some collect ACEOs by the medium used to create the art, oil paintings, acrylics, watercolor, etc. And some collect ACEOs created for charitable causes.

I’ve been creating these miniature works of art for a little while. And am testing out new places to sell them, for example at ArtCardsWanted.com where the site is dedicated to ACEOs. So here’s my most recent original miniature oil painting: Glass Bottles In Wooden Crate.

ACEO Glass Bottles in Wooden Crate oil painting

We were lucky enough to get some warm sunny weather in December, so we headed out to our local Flea Market called Dog Days. And there were, as always, a slew of interesting things for sale.

This wooden crate full of empty glass bottles took me back to my childhood with hot, lazy, summer days. You just don’t see this very often today with so much plastic around.

If you’d like to acquire this original ACEO, you can find it at: ArtCardsWanted.com

On another note, my friend Chris sent me an interesting notice today. He is the editor at 451press.com and asked me to pass this contest along:

“We are offering prizes to random commenters for the month of Jan. We have 1 $500 prize and 5 $100 prizes. If you have a way to spread the word I’d appreciate it. If you have time, comment too because you could win the money yourself. ”

If you want to read some interesting columns and make a comment or two, please visit: http://www.451press.com/451-press-comment-contest/
Of course, spam is disqualified from the comment contest.

Enjoy your day. Cindy Douglass

Unruly Heart Charity Auction: 505 Page Views And Climbing

Wednesday, January 3rd, 2007

The Unruly Heart Charity Auction (ebay item # 290066220113), which will 100% benefit the Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Association, has reached 505 page views so far.

As you may already know, this auction has received the emotional support of many people who are watching this listing in ebay, making it the number one most watched auction in the category of Self Representing Artists. I am thankful and appreciative of everyone’s efforts to get the message out about Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy.

I’d like to ask you to also consider bidding on this small art. Every penny of the proceeds will go to the Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Association for their research and dispensing of valuable information about this most overlooked type of heart disease. And the winning bidder will get a beautiful small piece of art with my heartfelt thanks.
Thank you.
