Art Show Preview
I will be showing some of my work at the Parkway Mall in Huntsville, AL on Friday (May 16) and Saturday (May 17) in conjunction with the Huntsville Arts League.
I’m not sure how this will go. An acquaintance asked to see my art because her cousin was opening an art gallery. When I showed her the art, she shunned my work, saying, “Don’t get me wrong but the nude and the claws ? Do you do anything else?”
I didn’t realize that my art would be that off-putting to some people. I guess I’ve been in a bit of a cocoon. My friends and family have been very supportive. Time to put on the tough skin to face the public.
Here are the three pieces I plan on taking to the show. My work reflects the human conditions that I experience.
Choices: The Holey Aura.
Oil on 20″ x 16″ canvas. We all make choices, and when we make the wrong choices for our soul, I imagine our guardian angel cries, and our personal demon rejoices. This is what I’ve painted.
The angels are nude because I imagine angels (the good and the fallen) are dressed in their own glory. I shall probably have to do a temporary dressing of the demon to be shown in the mall environment. This is Alabama, after all. Would hate to get arrested for showing nude art.
An Adventure.
Oil on 16″ x 20″ canvas. The painting of the claws dropping from the sky show the element of surprise and angst we all seem to experience when the unexpected happens.
Yet, If one looks closer at the tableau, it becomes pretty funny. For all the common sense and knowledge that humans are supposed to have, the horse is acting with more intelligence than the human for it’s survival.
Am I saying that horses are smarter than people? Not necessarily. Just that it’s good to pay attention to instinct. Besides, the horse running away in this painting makes me laugh.
Slippers Deconstructed
Mixed media on 16″ x 20″ canvas. Everything has a story. Looking at the story a pair of slippers might tell helped to create this art.
I hope you’ll come to view this art first hand.
And I hope you find more meaning in it than just “the nude and the claws”!
