Duck in Acrylic Paint

Saturday, June 13th, 2009

“It annoys me to feel so weak,” I told my son over the phone. “So if I had to just sit, I decided to do a small 8 x 6 inch painting.”
“Hmmm” son said. “What did you paint?”
“A duck in acrylic paint,” I announced. I am a huge fan of oil paints so this is news of momentous note.
“Acrylic rocks!” he exclaimed in excitement.
“Acrylic paint is annoying,” I responded.
“Acrylic is the best stuff,” son enthused.
“I found painting with acrylic to be like painting my skin with needle pin pricks,” I declared. “I should have painted with my oil paints.”
“I’m telling you Mom, Acrylic is the da bomb!” son said.
“Grrmummblbllleeee. Well the duck didn’t turn out too badly. I guess,” I said. “And if I varnish it tomorrow, it’ll be ready in time for the NFAC ( Nibblefest Art Contest ) on ebay.”

And the conversation then turned another corner.

M2E On a brand new Internet adventure…

Friday, June 12th, 2009

What if Ebay had been owned by the sellers on eBay?  How differently would the sellers be treated? Do you think your items that you are selling would get better exposure in the eBay search engine than it’s getting now? Do you think you’d might have some say at whether or not a large corporation gets free listings? And wouldn’t a seller that owned a share in eBay have something to say about a big corporation getting better exposure with those free listings than a small seller who pays but gets reduced exposure?

Let that simmer for a minute and let’s look at the new social world popping up around us. First it was MySpace, then Facebook, and Twitter. And there’s virtual reality games one can play on Facebook and Myspace. It’s a given that most people enjoy interaction with other people. I have great fun visiting my friends and chatting in YoVille (through Facebook).  It also gives me the ability to showcase some of my art and the music we sell. And I also enjoy micro blogging on Twitter because I’m aware that people are curious.

So what if you had ownership shares of an Internet business that combined a selling market, social interaction, and twittering? Would you buy into it? Maybe? How much would you pay? $10 a share? $100 a share? Ok,  I’m not going to sell you some shares.  This place is giving away shares for awhile just to get name recognition. You might want to put your name in while the getting is good. Because the idea is fabulous. And Free shares are pretty cool for such a great idea as M2E.

WordPress 2.8 upgrade and other notes

Thursday, June 11th, 2009

It’s been awhile since I’ve done a snapshot progress report. I think it might be about time for one.

The new upgrade to WordPress 2.8 seems to have gone smoothly according to first glance. I am greatly impressed at the new ease of upgrading with the auto feature. That’s a huge relief. It used to take me a couple of hours to upgrade in the “old” days. Must remind myself to back up the files again, though. That’s still a bit of a chore. Backing up the db files are no sweat, but the rest of the files are sometimes a nuisance. There’s always some change or another to the js files, etc.

Let’s see, I am twittering at http://twitter.com/MediaMedley
I don’t know if it’s anything more than spinning wheels, but I hope that it is helping to get the message out about MediaMedley.com . Music and Art. The finer things in life. Ok, after all these years I’m still developing a tag line. Maybe one day I’ll find one that really works! LOL!

I usually tweet about at least one CD, my art on Etsy, and do a promo of another etsy site who’s gotten my attention. Sometimes I’ll thow in a general comment about life or current events. That’s about the extent of my tweeting.

I found a new site today called, CheapTweet, and signed up for use when I run some specials on CDs and other stuff.

MediaMedley on CheapTweet

Have spent some time promoting my art that’s shown on http://CindyDouglass.etsy.com
I thought putting my art on etsy, rather than our own website, might help attract attention from the art crowd. I’m not too sure how that’s going. It’s been about 6 weeks so far, and not a sale. I’m pretty sure I could toss some art onto eBay and make a sale there, but I’m not willing to let my art go for $25 for a 16 x 20 inch oil painting. I’ll gift it all away before I’ll do that again. At least gifting gives me a sense of satisfaction.

I’ve a facebook fan page now. It located at Cindy Douglass, Artist.

I’ve noticed that my art, titled The Unruly Heart, is still being used (with permission) as art by the Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Association. That’s pretty cool. The art is used right now as the background art on the website, and in many of their presentations.

Other topics that have my attention right now include:

  • Developing an advertising budget
  • getting some form of streamlining to our data entry processes (enter once, distribute everywhere)

That’s the snapshot of my recent doings beyond the usual day to day work routine.
